Coin collecting has always proven to be a popular hobby all throughout the world and really all throughout time. There are many different reasons that people have to want to start a coin collection. Some people like collecting only certain coins from a historical era that’s important to them while others just collect some of the rare and more valuable coins. There are some who just add to their coin collection with the sole intent of being able to sell the coins later in the future and make a generous amount of cash.
One of the biggest perks about coin collecting is that unlike other hobbies it is one that can actually pay for itself. Even if you don’t want to sell any of the coins from your collection you’re able to still occasionally get some use out of them. If you ever find yourself needing to put up collateral for something you’ll be able to use your coins, as long as you’ve first had them certified and thus have an actual value attached to them. When you have made an investment in gold bullion, you want to know how to keep it clean. You cannot clean it with just any everyday cleaners. Knowing what to use can help you to keep it shining and bright as the day you first purchased it. Too often there are those who try cleaning with certain chemicals and end up ruining their gold. Follow a few of these tips to keep that from being you.
First off you must understand the difference between cleaning your gold and polishing. You never want to polish your gold but you can clean it gently. There are some coins that are very soft and you can cause damage just by wiping it with a cloth. Some choose to hand them over to a dealer to have them cleaned and maintained. They have been trained to handle these in a gentle fashion and know what it takes to protect them. This can insure you that you will not unknowingly damage your coins. This may be your best bet if you are unsure about handling the coins themselves. Many have chosen this way just to make sure their coins are in tiptop shape. Continue reading

Investors are often advised not to micromanage their financial portfolios. Advisors often recommend this because it is not uncommon for investors to develop anxiety when they constantly check the performance of their stock portfolios. Generally speaking, if an investor notices that one type of stock is performing well, they naturally want to allocate more money to that stock.
However, if a stock performs poorly, the natural reaction of the investor is to pull money away from that stock. Unfortunately, this is the worst thing that an investor can do. The performance of a stock should be judged over a period of time. Although the stock may do well today, it could tank tomorrow. Furthermore, some stocks may get off to a slow start but become star performers in the furture. It is not wise for investors to make changes based on emotion. Instead, they should partake in an annual review of their portfolio and make analytical changes based on the findings. Continue reading

It can be very difficult looking for a good coin dealer, even using the internet to search. While they are plentiful to find, it can be hard to know who can be trusted with your coins, who can give you solid advice and fair prices concerning the purchase or sale of coins. Fortunately, there are many numismatic organizations that lend some credibility and give some common ideas behind the ideal behavior of coin dealers. One of these is the Professional Numismatists Guild. Each of its members must adhere to a strict set of rules. These rules, while guidelines that all good numismatists should follow, help ensure that coin dealers who demonstrate the PNG logo consistently meet these standards.
The PNG Code of Ethics consists of 17 different rules and stipulations that its members must follow. A PNG member must promise to give “sound advice” to customers in the realm of numismatics. This is the first rule, and is the general rule of thumb that encompasses all other rules, which are more specific stipulations of the “sound advice” rule. Another rule requires members to assist any government agency in the investigation and prosecution of any person dealing in numismatic goods. This provides the services of each coin dealer to local and federal law enforcement. This rule is in place to help track down counterfeiters and frauds from damaging the reputation of numismatists as a whole. In addition, members are specifically forbidden in dealing with counterfeit or doctored coins without specifically mentioning its status to a customer. Even services as mundane as polishing are considered doctoring and must be disclosed to the customer. PNG rules give a list of misrepresentations that all members must refrain from, including misrepresenting a coin’s grade, origin, weight, value, or potential investment value. Continue reading
